"The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights." - Gloria Steinem Me and mum To all the women out there, there's nothing I can say or need to say that you don't already know.  There are many things I think about on this day.  Personally , I remember the best woman I ever knew, which was my own mother. She passed away a few years ago and while life goes on, I often think of her and also see in myself, some of her qualities. I talk a lot and I'm quite  stubborn , both traits I undoubtedly received from her.  Aside from this, I think of the age we live in now. We will never have true or perfect equality in the world because inequality itself is a product of free will. We do however have the knowledge and the possibility to provide every individual with the chance to  succeed  in life, for the betterment of humanity. There wa...

For the love of hockey

"The only way a kid is going to practice is if it's total fun for him... and it was for me." - Wayne Gretzky I'm a lover of Ice Hockey and it's game-day here in Finland and the excitement is building as my team ( IFK Helsinki )  are looking to secure their top 6 place and avoid an extra round of games. I won't make it to this game but I'll be following it with keen interest. In  Winter 2009, I had my first visit to Finland and my first live hockey match where I became a fan of a new team, IFK Helsinki. Since then, I've been a massive  HIFK  fan, averaging about 5 live games per season since 2010 and it's a trend that I hope to continue going forward... The playoff will start in a few weeks and my guys will definitely be there!  Stadin Kingit!!! Like most kids who don't grow up in a country where it's popular (or even exists) I first experienced  hockey  through the magic of The Mighty Ducks . I remember years ago when I couldn't...

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”  ―  J.R.R. Tolkien Laskiaispulla filled with jam and cream Today is Tuesday the 5th or March and on this particular day in Finland, should you be here, you may notice on social media or out and about that a lot of people are eating "Pulla" which is the Finnish word for bun. In particular on this day, it's likely you'll see people stuffing their faces with  Laskiaispulla , which translates into Shrove Buns, for shrove Tuesday. It's only March and already we have our second dessert-themed day of the year. Finns love their food and they make some excellent pastries here as I've learned over the years. I'm not big on traditions but when it comes to food, I make an exception. Food is the way to a mans heart, or to mine at least, and in Finland there are so many treats to choose from. Most are delicious and some not-so-much, but you can find out more abou...
